Kindergarten Krazy

I am happy to announce that we now have a K-5-er We are on week five so as you can tell I am a bit behind. We are at "big" school which is from 8.05-2.20 along time for a little one. No naps either- my have times changed. I distinctly remember my kindergarten days- I anticipated the bus ride every morning, we took long naps under the tables which I recall loving - we had centers and my favorite was the kitchen center- and my most favorite kindergarten memory was making carmel apples. I do not remember homework and dress codes, sight words and reading. The day before kindergarten and all through the night everyone was excited with love and delight our baby was growing and this day proved true I have to admit I was a bit sad and blue With book sack in hand- the sassy zebra stripes were cool and for five years we waited for our big girl to start SCHOOL To Carley: We met your teacher the Friday before school started on 8/24/2009. Mrs. Drawdy is your K-5 teacher and Miss Sonnenburg her assistant. The room was ready- the table had your name to mark your seat for the year. The centers were established and you too loved the kitchen center. You counted the days until your first day of school- we shopped for the perfect outfit for this special occasion- we had long ordered your book sack that you chose on some online shopping time pink and black zebra striped- lunch box and notebooks to match. You are adamant about your own fashion- you like to dress different- if I buy you dresses- you want pants- if I buy you puppy dog shirts you want peace signs so now I pretty much have to take you with me or you will not wear anything that I buy- and there are times when I refuse to buy the odd things you choose- but I love your character of difference- you like to be you and nobody else.... The school fairy came the night before school- she/he brought some supplies, a book, some shoes, outfit..... I will put a picture up for you- I took pictures of everything so that you would not forget this most spectacular day- you even asked mom, why are you taking pictures of everything- and my response: honey, I want you to remember this day- even the breakfast you chose. The one thing we did not anticipate was going to school in a SLING on your very first day- it was a bit chaotic. Over the weekend we attended Kylee's birthday party where you swam ALL day and night- to close out the night we did a little jumping on the trampoline and as the orthopedic doctor would say- Big person and little person on the trampoline: little person is bound to get hurt. Here is future information to avoid the orthopedic doctor: some common denominators in breaks and fractures for little people 1. trampoline 2. golf cart 3. scooters/ bicycles.... note to self The first two weeks of schools were a bit interupted by this injury- after a few x-rays we were safe to say we had no break or fracture but the doctor was concerned about the growth plate- so he put on a splint to help your elbow to heal properly. School pictures- splint/ First day of school- sling--- I was not ready for that but hopefully that will be our first and last injury...... Well, into week five of school and you are not as eagerly excited to go as you once were- you have to get up early- which you detest - and you claim kindergarten is "hard" but you still like it. In five short weeks you have retained so much information that I am amazed. I love to sit with you each night for homework time and just watch you go- You love Friday night Football at the school- it is neat to watch you play with all of your new friends- you love the new class pet- hammy the hamster- and you love to do math sheets and play in the center rooms- This year we are on Team Kindergarten!! Love always Mom xoxo

  1. I can't believe Carley is in kindergarten! I remember when you were pregnant with her. Time surely does fly! So glad that things are going well. She is absolutely beautiful! Just like her mommy....and daddy.
