Dear John: Book vs. Movie

It was back in January that I picked up Dear John by Nicholas Sparks who by the way has not written a bad book in my opinion. Of course, I picked up the book that had the two leading stars on the cover Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried so my mind did not have the option to create my own character image. Here are some captions from the book-
"Passion is passion. It's the excitement between the tedious spaces, and it doesn't matter where it's directed...It can be coins or sports or politics or horses or music or faith...the saddest people I've ever met in life are the ones who don't care deeply about anything at all." — Nicholas Sparks
"I finally understood what true love meant...love meant that you care for another person's happiness more than your own, no matter how painful the choices you face might be." — Nicholas Sparks
"When you're struggling with something, look at all the people around you and realize that every single person you see is struggling with something, and to them, it's just as hard as what you're going through." — Nicholas Sparks ...... so true
"And when her lips met mine, I knew that I could live to be a hundred and visit every country in the world, but nothing would ever compare to that single moment when I first kissed the girl of my dreams and knew that my love would last forever." — Nicholas Sparks .... captivating
These were some captions I found online since it has been months since I have picked up the book but oh the words that came from black and white come alive on screen. I love to cuddle up on the couch at midnight for some movie watching and I did just that last week. I wait till all is quiet in the house and I usually pick one night to stay up really late- to get in some quiet time- me time and I hope that the movie is worth me staying up so late since I will be dragging the next day, and the next...
Dear John the movie was no let down- I had heard mixed reviews and was really skeptic to watch it only because I had already made up my mind that the book was outstanding- so I didnt want the movie to disappoint. These actors did an amazing job pulling me right back into the plot- I was excited, giddy, I laughed, I cried, with every scene came new emotion. I can't say which I enjoyed more because normally I am a skip the book and watch the movie kind of girl- It was fun to read first then watch to compare.
Romance, drama and war all wrapped up into one was just perfect for my me time. Oh be still my heart as I batted my eyes at Channing Tatum- (Dear John's: John Tyree) who also played in Stop Loss (great movie) and Step Up- (note to self and married the leading star Jenna Dewan). And Amanda Seyfried (Dear John's Savannah Curtis)- You may have seen her in Mean Girls or Mama Mia- I think she is just darling.
You can't go wrong with the book or the movie- give yourself a little me time take a break from the world- Can you imagine if you were Nicholas Sparks and your books were made into motion picture? Or if you were born in 1980/1985 and were a leading actor/actress- what would you do with yourself? Anywho. Happy Summer 2010...
